Measures in and around the university

We monitor the websites of RIVM and Foreign Affairs (travel advice), in addition to all known news sites. Besides that we also stay in continuous contact with other higher education institutions in the Netherlands.

The buildings of The Hague University of Applied Sciences are open for students, (external) staff members and third parties of THUAS who visit any of the premises for education, exams and/or research activities or any other activities.

Students from other education facilities are not welcome without an appointment at the premises of THUAS in this period due to the limited number of available workspaces. There will be checks to ensure this is the case.

Here you see the opening hours of all premises of THUAS.

Entrance and exit

• There will be at least one entrance and one exit available at each location.
• Some locations may have temporary additional exits to enable one- way traffic routes.

Face masks

• THUAS requires everyone to wear a face mask in common areas.
• In case you forgot to bring your own face mask, you can pick one up at the reception or at the security desk.

One-way traffic

• We will use one-way traffic in high traffic areas (this includes stairwells, hallways and corridors).
• Give everyone enough space to safely pass each other.

Walking routes

• The adapted walking routes in hallways and stairwells will be clearly marked. All locations will use uniform markings and signage in Dutch and English.
Download the maps: Maps with the walking routes within THUAS' buildings.

Lifts

• To free up lifts as much as possible for people with limited mobility, services and goods with trolleys, we discourage the regular use of lifts as much as possible.
• A maximum of 2 people are allowed per lift.
• People with limited mobility have priority in the use of lifts.

People with limited mobility

• People with limited mobility are allowed to use the shortest or easiest routes, even if that means going against one-way traffic.

Emergency situation

• In case of an emergency situation that requires evacuation, it may be necessary to deviate from the protocol guidelines.

Subject rooms

• Additional measures may be necessary in effect in the subject rooms, such as the use of protective gear or cleaning products in contact areas. The subject rooms may also use industry-specific guidelines in their education.

Enforcement: everyone is responsible

• The Hague University of Applied Sciences expects that students, staff members and visitors will address each other when the guidelines of the RIVM and/or The Hague University of Applied Sciences are not followed.
• Address everyone with respect.
• Be understanding if someone unintentionally breaches a guideline
• If someone repeatedly breaches the rules and is also unwilling to listen to warnings from others, please call security at 070-4458001.
• Security may deny someone access to the premises. The incident will also be reported to the faculty or department in question.

The implemented measures apply to all locations of The Hague University of Applied Sciences.

• The Hague University of Applied Sciences follows the RIVM guidelines (Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment).
• THUAS requires everyone to wear a face mask in common areas.
• In case you forgot to bring your own face mask, you can pick one up at the reception or at the security desk.
• It is not forbidden to wear a face mask in subject rooms or at the workstations.
• In subject rooms additional measures can be necessary, such as protection or cleaning products.

The Hague University of Applied Sciences is implementing additional hygiene measures, according to the RIVM guidelines. All points of contact will be regularly cleaned. Unfortunately it is not possible to keep the swinging doors open permanently, as these also serve as fire doors.

Washing hands

• Upon entry and at several locations throughout the buildings you will find disinfectants to clean your hands.

• Staff members can pick up hygiene packages from faculty offices and secretariats.

Cleaning

• Additional cleaning activities will be carried out, including sanitary facilities and contact surfaces. Additional cleaning supplies will be available in areas where its use will be required.

Based on current information, changes to the ventilation systems are not required. The ventilation systems comply with all requirements, and follow all applicable guidelines and maintenance instructions.

The THUAS ventilations systems DO NOT re-circulate air back into the buildings. Our systems use the F7 filters that filter the outside air better than the prescribed standard F5 filters. (see NEN (Dutch norms) table). It can be stated that the air in the building is thus cleaner than the air outside.

Every summer new filters are put in, even though they have not yet reached end of life cycle. Also the filter boxes are disinfected from the inside although this is not prescribed. Samples are being taken from inside and outside these boxes and analysed by labs. The health authority RIVM has confirmed that on the basis of the current insights, no further measures regarding air conditioning are necessary in buildings such as THUAS.

Attendance

• Restrict travel as much as possible;
• Only come to THUAS if absolutely necessary.

And always stick to the basic rules.
Keep 1.5 meters distance. Wash and disinfect your hands regularly. Cough and sneeze into your elbow. Stay at home if you have symptoms or if you have been in contact with someone who is infected, get tested if there is reason to do so. Wear a face mask.

The following applies to everyone: do not be present at THUAS if your presence is not required.

Do you belong to one of the risk groups, have a housemate in a risk group, are afraid of getting infected or have another reason and you’re expected to attend physically, please contact your dean or manager to make agreements on an individual basis.

COVID-19 health complaints

If you test positive for COVID-19 and have recently been at the university, please contact your degree programme and/or supervisor, please check the flowchart.

In case of a confirmed COVID-19 infection at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, we will work together with the GGD to make a list of anyone who has been in contact with the person in the  period that he/she was contagious. These people will be informed and advised to carefully monitor themselves.

Students and employees are not obligated by law to report a positive test to the university. However, without a notification, the university can’t take action to prevent any further outbreaks. That is why we ask everyone to take this into consideration when considering options. Every notification we receive is greatly appreciated.

See this decision framework for contamination COVID-19.

Have you recently been to any of the orange regions for which the Dutch government now urgently advices to self-quarantine upon return / arrival to the Netherlands?

Or have you been asked to do so because you have been in contact with someone that has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus? If so, we urge you to stick to that advise, and therefore not come to THUAS during that 10 day period. Quarantining is not something you do for you, you do it to protect your loved ones, your fellow students and the more vulnerable people in our society. Only by carefully following all measures, of which the self-quarantine is a vital part, can we prevent the virus from bringing our society and our education to a virtual halt for a second time.

Are you worried about missing (parts of) your study program that are only offered in physical form? Please contact your study program as soon as possible, they can help you look for possible solutions and alternatives.

Only the GGD can oblige you to cooperate.

• We expect that everyone complies with the guideline to not come to THUAS if they experience any symptoms. Check the flowchart.

• If you are experiencing symptoms but you have tested negative for COVID-19, we still ask that you do not come to the university.

• In the case of chronic complaints, please discuss your options with your dean or manager.

• If we learn that someone with symptoms is present, we will ask that person to leave the premises.

Report your state to your manager and follow the illness reporting procedure. You don't have to report the medical diagnosis to THUAS. You are obliged to report your infection to the GGD and to comply with the guidelines of the GGD and RIVM.
