People with vitality who – literally and figuratively – feel comfortable in their own skin use less healthcare. Increasing vitality by eating healthily and getting enough exercise has a positive effect on people and the healthcare system. In Medical Delta Living Lab VIT for life, the Healthy Lifestyle in a Supporting Environment Research Group and its partners are researching how technology can support improving vitality.

The living lab focuses on making more user-friendly innovative technical concepts that can improve health and ease the burden on healthcare. This includes apps that encourage healthy food choices and adequate exercise, for example.

The researchers subsequently look at how these ideas and designs fit within the existing range of care and how professionals can be trained. They are also researching how users can incorporate the concepts in their daily lives. That is why end users play a key role in all stages of the development.

Research

The Hague University of Applied Sciences is involved in three ongoing research projects:

  • Food Boost Challenge: a new approach to research in which researchers work together with young people to look at making healthier food choices and eating more fruit and vegetables.
  • Blended care – better care for overweight children: research that looks at whether an app or platform can help to better align the supply to achieve a healthy lifestyle intervention.
  • Implementation network in practice: in this research, researchers look at implementation issues in the collaboration between sport, education and healthcare.
