English PREP School

The Academic Preparation Course (PREP school) of The Hague University of Applied Sciences will help you acquire the English proficiency and study skills you need for an international education at Dutch universities. Our international learning environment and interactive teaching will help you get ready for a successful career in the international classrooms of The Hague’s Bachelors and Masters courses.

Entry requirements

In order to be admitted into the PREP school you need to:

  • be eligible for the follow up programme of your choice
  • have an adequate command of the English language
  • be at least 18 years old at the start of the programme

Minimum requirements
The minimum English requirements for the prep school are mentioned in the table below.

An IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC certificate is valid for two years, the certificate must be valid at the start of the academic year. The Hague University of Applied Sciences does not accept Institutional TOEFL scores, TOEFL ITP scores or any other language test certificates.

Additional requirements:

  • students with a non-EU/EEA nationality need to have a valid residence permit during their study.
  • students with a Chinese nationality need to have applied for a NUFFIC certificate before the deadline.

Application procedure

We are working on a new application process, which is still under construction at this moment. As soon as this is available, you'll find the instructions on how to apply below.


  1. You will automatically be informed about the applicable (immigration*) procedure after acceptance;
  2. You need to apply for your own accommodation before travelling to the Netherlands;
  3. You transfer the required fee (and upload immigration documents*) before the deadline as mentioned in your invoice.
  4. For non-EU students who transferred the package fee, we will apply for Health Insurance, Entry Visa* and a Residence Permit for study;
    a) When the application is approved by the Dutch Immigration Service (IND), we will inform you via email*;
    b) You make an appointment with the Dutch embassy for getting the visa sticker* in your passport;
  5. You will travel to the Netherlands and THUAS will arrange a pick-up service from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to take you to your Dutch address;
  6. You will attend the appointments that are made by THUAS (Registration City Hall / TB Health Check*);
  7. You will be fully enrolled at the PREP school of The Hague University of Applied Sciences;
  8. You will receive further information to complete your enrolment for the follow up programme of your choice.

The Hague University of Applied Sciences is a mini United Nations with a blend of 150 nationalities on campus. As the International City of Peace, Justice and Security, The Hague is bursting with international legal institutions. Since 1913, the Peace Palace has been a centre of world justice, hosting the permanent Court of Arbitrations and the International Court of Justice. You'll also find the International Yugoslavia Tribunal, Europol and the International Criminal Court in The Hague, along with many other courts, tribunals and NGOs.
