International Financial Management and Control - English - 4 years

After the deception at Volkswagen exposed in 2015 and the more recent scandal of the Panama Papers, it’s safe to say that the world is definitely in need of a more transparent businesses environment. And while it may be true that thousands of people wake up every day with a brilliant business idea, their business plans often miss a solid and profitable financial strategy and efficient cost planning. And that’s where you will come in, as a prospective student of International Financial Management and Control (IFMC) at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS), the beating heart of any business.

International Financial Management & Control is a very intensive study programme. You will need to be highly motivated and independent to take this programme. To determine whether you have the right qualities for this programme an interview will be part of the admission process. If an interview in person is not possible a telephone or skype interview will be set up. IFMC has a rolling admission process, which means that your enrolment will be reviewed on a first come first serve basis. As only a limited number of students will be admitted to the programme it is important to enroll as early as possible.

Admission requirements

You have a non-Dutch diploma

Before we can decide on your eligibility, we will need to assess your secondary school certificate. To make sure your certificate is evaluated fairly, we work with NUFFIC, an organisation that specialises in the assessment of international education qualifications.
This programme is taught entirely in English. You’ll need a good command of the English language, both spoken and written.

Bachelor candidates who were educated in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada (Quebec only when the education language is English), Australia, New-Zealand, South Africa or Malta, or students holding a diploma (including English as an exam subject) stated on this diploma list, doesn’t need to take an English proficiency test.

All other prospective students are required to hand in a valid and sufficient TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or Cambridge (CAE or CPE)  certificate to the Enrolment Centre. The TOEFL, TOEIC and IELTS certificate must not be older than two years at the start of the study year.

See the document of the Language requirements 2016 for more information.

Please note: The Hague University of Applied Sciences does not accept Institutional TOEFL scores, TOEFL ITP scores or any other language test certificates.

Please note: if you take (or have taken) the TOEFL English proficiency test, please allow The Hague University of Applied Sciences to check your online results to verify your TOEFL certificate. The Institution Code of The Hague University of Applied Sciences is 7042.

If you completed your prior education in another country than those listed above you might still qualify for exemption, if:

  • you have an American or International High School Diploma, or
  • you have an European or International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Please contact the THUAS Enrolment Centre and ask for details.

If you have not quite reached the level you need to enrol for a degree but your results are promising, we offer an English Prep School programme, which takes six months or one year. On completion of this, you will not only be ready to join a Bachelor class, but you’ll also have learned a lot about the Netherlands, The Hague and our university.

You have a Dutch diploma

To begin the 4-year bachelor's degree programme in International Financial Management and Control, you should have a havo- or vwo-diploma with the appropriate "profiel". For some "profielen", certain subjects are required. You could also qualify for admission with a mbo (level 4) diploma.

All prospective students will be expected to complete an admission procedure. If you meet the admission conditions, you will be invited to attend an interview. This interview will last 30-45 minutes and will be conducted in English. Based on the information obtained from the interview, the faculty will issue an opinion on whether you have the right qualities to take part in the International Financial Management and Control degree programme.

Once you have applied via Studielink, The Hague University of Applied Sciences will handle your application and let you know as soon as possible about whether you can be admitted. Because we only admit a limited number of students to the International Financial Management and Control study programme, it is important that you register as soon as possible.
The most suitable "profiel" for havo and vwo is E&M. English is strongly recommended for mbo students.
What if you want to start your degree programme but you don't have the required subjects in your havo- or vwo- "profiel"? In most cases, The Hague University of Applied Sciences will offer you an opportunity to eliminate this deficiency by taking a deficiency examination (Dutch).
If you received a havo-diploma previous to 2009 or a vwo-diploma previous to 2010, your diploma will be assessed individually to see if you qualify for admission. If you have any questions about this,  you can contact the Central Student Enrolment Office by completing the contact form.
There is no Admission Test 21+ for this degree programme.
There can be no exceptions made to the official admission requirements. The Central Student Enrolment Office is the only agency that can arrive at decisions regarding your qualification for admission as based on the official regulations. You cannot rely on any other sources of information with regard to your qualification for admission.
