International Business and Management Studies - English - 4 years

After the financial meltdown of 2008, the deception at Volkswagen’s exposed in 2015 and with declining readership of newspapers around the world, it’s safe to say that the world is definitely in need of business experts who instinctively know how to turn feasible ideas into liable businesses. And that is where you will come in, as a prospective student of International Business Management Studies (IBMS) at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS). The education every business professional needs.

Let’s be clear about it up front: to keep up with the IBMS programme you will need to be good at maths and have a good command of English. To qualify for the four-year programme, you will need a secondary school diploma equivalent to that of a Dutch HAVO.

Admission requirements

You have a non-Dutch diploma

Before we can decide on your eligibility, we will need to assess your secondary school certificate. To make sure your certificate is evaluated fairly, we work with NUFFIC, an organisation that specialises in the assessment of international education qualifications.

This programme is taught entirely in English. You’ll need a good command of the English language, both spoken and written.

Bachelor candidates who were educated in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada (except for Quebec!), Australia, New-Zealand, South Africa or Malta, or students holding a diploma (including English as an exam subject) stated on this diploma list, need not take an English proficiency test.

All other prospective students are required to hand in a valid and sufficient TOEFL, TOEIC , IELTS, or Cambridge ESOL certificate to the Enrolment Centre. The certificate must not be older than two year at the start of the study year.

If you completed your prior education in another country than those listed above you might still qualify for exemption, if:

  • you have an American or International High School Diploma, or
  • you have an European or International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Please contact the THUAS Enrolment Centre and ask for details.

If you don't meet the mininum entrance requirements, and you are 21 years or older, the Admission Test 21+ offers you the opportunity to still be admitted to this bachelor programme. Click here for more information on the Admission Test 21+.

You have a Dutch diploma

To begin the 4-year bachelor's degree programme in International Business Management Studies, you should have a havo or vwo diploma with the appropriate "profiel". For some "profielen", certain subjects are required. You could also qualify for admission with a mbo (level 4) diploma.

  • N&T Economics or Management & Organisation or a 2nd modern foreign language
  • N&G Economics or Management & Organisation or a 2nd modern foreign language
  • E&M Immediately qualifies for admission
  • C&M Economics or Management & Organisation

  • N&T Economics or Management & Organisation or a 2nd modern foreign language
  • N&G Economics or Management & Organisation or a 2nd modern foreign language
  • E&M Immediately qualifies for admission

  • Level 4, middle management or specialised secondary education programme
The most suitable "profiel" for either hvo and vwo is E&M. English and a second modern foreign language are strongly recommended for mbo students.
What if you want to start your degree programme but you don’t have the required subjects in your havo- or vwo "profiel"? In most cases, The Hague University of Applied Sciences will offer you an opportunity to eliminate this deficiency by taking a deficiency examination (Dutch).
If you received a havo-diploma previous to 2009 or a vwo-diploma previous to 2010, your diploma will be assessed individually to see if you qualify for admission. If you have any questions about this, you can contact the Central Student Enrolment Office by completing the contact form.
If you don't have the diploma that qualifies your for admission and you will be 21 or older when the new academic year begins, you can take the Admission Test 21+. If you pass this test, you can still begin the degree programme of your choice. The admission test for degree programmes offered at The Hague University of Applied Sciences tests your command of Dutch and English and also includes a programme-specific section.
There can be no exceptions made to the official admission requirements. The Central Student Enrolment Office is the only agency that can arrive at decisions regarding your qualification for admission as based on the official regulations. You cannot rely on any other sources of information with regard to your qualification for admission.
