Admission recommendation

You have a non-Dutch diploma

Let’s be up front. To keep up with the IB programme you’ll need to be good at maths and have a good command of English. To qualify for the intensive three-year programme, you’ll need a secondary school diploma equivalent to that of a higher level Dutch VWO diploma, such as an international Baccalaureate, German Abitur, or three British A-levels at grade C or higher. Before we can decide on your eligibility, we’ll need to assess your secondary school certificate. To make sure your certificate is evaluated fairly, we work with NUFFIC, an organisation that specialises in the assessment of international education qualification.

You will need an affinity with maths.

You are a EU or non-EU national without a Dutch diploma

Students with a secondary school diploma equivalent to a Dutch HAVO, MBO 4 or VWO diploma are eligible for this bachelor’s programme. We’ll assess your secondary school diploma using NUFFIC’s foreign diploma evaluation.

English language skills and required scores

This programme is taught entirely in English.
Bachelor’s candidates educated in the Netherlands, UK, Ireland, USA, Canada (Quebec when the education language is English), Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Malta, or students holding a diploma (including English as an exam subject), don’t need to take an English proficiency test.

All other prospective students are required to present a valid and sufficient TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS (less than two years old at the start of the academic year) or Cambridge (CAE or CPE) certificate to the Enrolment Centre.

See our language requirements for more information.

English proficiency test scores required:

  • IELTS Academic 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT 80
  • Cambridge FCE: Grade B scale 173-175 | Grade C scale 169-172

Please note: THUAS does not accept Institutional TOEFL scores, TOEFL ITP scores or any other language test certificates.

If you have taken the TOEFL English proficiency test, please let THUAS check your results online to verify your TOEFL certificate. Our institution code is 7042.

Exemptions

If you completed your prior education in a country other than those listed, you might still qualify for exemption if:

  • you have an American or International High School Diploma, or
  • you have a European or International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Please contact the Enrolment Centre and ask for details.

If you have not quite reached the level you need to enrol for a degree but your results are promising, we offer an the Prep School programme.

This can be taken for six months or one year. On successful completion of this course, you should be ready to join a bachelor’s and will know a lot more about the Netherlands, The Hague and our university.

There is no Admission Test 21+  for this degree programme.

All prospective students must complete the admission procedures. If you meet the admission requirements, you’ll be invited to an interview. This interview will last 30 minutes and will be conducted in English. The faculty will then decide whether you have the qualities necessary to take part in the accelerated three-year IB programme.

Please note: You’ll first have to apply for the standard four-year IB degree programme in Studielink. During the intake process, we’ll invite all students that meet the admission requirements to attend the interview. You’ll be able to indicate that you wish to do the three-year programme at this point.

There are no exceptions to the official admission requirements. The Enrolment Office is the only party that can make decisions regarding your qualification for admission based on official regulations. You can’t rely on any other sources of information for your qualification for admission.
