First-ever European COIL conference to be held in The Hague

The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) is organising Europe’s first ever Conference on Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) on December 1st and 2nd 2016. COIL is a worldwide network engaged in cross-boarder collaboration assisted by information technology that provides students with an avenue for intercultural learning.

The conference will feature a wide variety of presentations, workshops and panel discussions about using COIL projects to achieve internationalisation of university curricula and will feature leading international education and telecollaboration experts, including Darla Deardorff, Rick Arrowood, Robert O’Dowd and COIL founder Jon Rubin.

Collaborative Online International Learning involves courses, projects and other ‘virtual mobility’ activities that bring students and faculty together across borders. Technology is used to create interactive international learning environments for cross-cultural collaboration and learning.

This conference is inspired by the concepts of globalisation, the emergence of ICT, the development of the learning economy and internationalisation at home. As a university of applied sciences, THUAS wants to embrace these developments and, together with COIL participants, take a glance at the future.

COIL projects offer an opportunity for internationalisation at home, an important them for The Hague University of Applied Sciences, a proud partner in the COIL network that has long prioritised internationalising higher education and has pledged to integrate COIL throughout the institution.

THUAS is looking forward to having the opportunity to exchange ideas with established COIL collaborators and newly interested educators. By bringing people together, the university hopes to establish new projects and partnerships by linking education professionals of similar or complementary interests and giving them the tools they need to create meaningful COIL projects for their students, all over the world.
