The Telders International Law Moot Court Competition has been attracting the brightest law students from over 30 European countries from 1977. The competition consists of two rounds, the written memorial stage and the oral rounds. As part of the first round, students analyse a fictitious dispute and draft two fully-referenced memorials for Applicant and Respondent. In the second round, students represent their respective States through oral pleadings before so-called moot courts. Per European country, only the university winning the national rounds may participate in the international rounds held in The Hague. The students’ memorials and pleadings are judged by legal experts, including judges from the International Court of Justice and the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, lawyers and professors of law. The final round of the Competition is traditionally held at the Peace Palace in The Hague.

Column Aminata Cairo: Welcome to the Movement

Research

First…. There was Corona, or Covid 19 that changed our lives in ways unimaginable. Suddenly we were forced to withdraw from each other, use strict hygiene regimens and had to remain inside. Work as we knew it stopped, school as we knew it stopped, socializing as we knew it stopped. It actually didn’t stop, it merely forced us to change how we looked at things, did things, and felt about things. We stopped running. We were forced to rest and be still. The earth had some reprieve. Yet we had to deal with the fear of illness or had to deal with the actual illness in our direct lives.

Inclusivity and global change

Netwerkhogeschool Global citizenship Internationalisation

It wasn’t very long ago that we were hit with a pandemic that still affects us deeply. From one moment to the next we were confronted with fear for our own health, and especially for the health of the most vulnerable amongst us. From one moment to the next we had to stay home and adjust our education. It was a challenge, but we made steps no one had previously thought possible. I am proud of the effort our teaching staff and our support staff have made in the transition to long distance education. I applaud our students for hanging in there with us. More than anything we learned how connected we are.

COVID-19 has had a massive impact on THUAS students, and not just because they’ve had to switch to online learning. A small ball in the hunt for drifting fishing nets

Programmes Global citizenship

¨Before i began my project i had no idea of the size of the problem i wanted to tackle. Well, it´s actually enormous. Every year over 8 million tons of plastic ends up in our oceans. 46 percent of this consists of discarded fishing nets. These strangle or suffocate more than 650,000 creatures a year. And the nets can remain out of there for up to 600 years.¨
