The Hague University of Applied Sciences and The Young Digitals launch a partnership

The Hague University of Applied Sciences has entered into a partnership with The Young Digitals. This social enterprise helps young people who have difficulties gaining access to the labour market by offering them training for the role of digital marketing specialists.

“It’s fantastic to see how quickly these young people develop into full-blown online marketing specialists”, says Jacqueline van Marle, head of Marketing and Communication, External and International Affairs.

On their own two feet

The Young Digitals enables young people who have difficulties accessing the job market to follow a 10-week free education programme, where they get the hang of basic online marketing skills. After the programme, several of them find employment with The Young Digitals. They take up online marketing tasks for clients under the supervision of experienced professionals. Sjoerd Hauptmeijer, the founder of The Young Digitals, explains: “These young adults faced serious setbacks early on in their lives. They have the potential, but the circumstances stopped it from developing. We want to teach them to stand on their own two feet. In order to do that, education and work experience are absolutely crucial. After a while you see them walking with their head high, as their self-confidence grows. Of course this won’t immediately solve all of their past problems, but we hope to provide them with a prospect for the future.”

Working at THUAS

Since last year, the participants of the programme have been supporting the Communication Department at THUAS with online marketing analyses and reports, and SEO and online marketing strategies. THUAS and The Young Digitals will continue their collaboration in the coming period. That way the young digital experts will get to carry out a range of marketing tasks. THUAS also plans to offer a number of secondment places, so they can experience what it’s like to be a part of a professional marketing and communication team. Sjoerd Hauptmeijer, the founder of The Young Digitals, explains: “We are very proud of our partnership with The Hague University of Applied Sciences. It gives our proteges a good start in their career as digital marketing specialists.”
