New academic year to start in September
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you (back) to The Hague University of Applied Sciences in the New Academic Year. In these times of the coronavirus you have no doubt been wondering what you can expect in the upcoming academic year and what it will mean to you when you start your studies at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS).We’ve been working hard to answer that question. It is of the highest priority to us that not only do we provide a safe environment to all of our students and staff but also that our students can have a good quality learning “THUAS Study Experience” - studying and working with other students, interacting with staff and enjoying life in the city of The Hague.
It is a developing situation so some of the details are waiting to be finalised . One basic rule that we will all have to maintain is that in public places we stay 1.5 metres away from other people. This will mean we will be offering ‘blended learning’ – combining in-person classes and tutorials with online learning. We have developed and been using our own THUAS interpretation of blended learning for a number of years so that we have more quality time with students.
Digital resources are used to create extra time to allow for more contact between lecturers and students and help stimulate further active learning. For example, more time applying the material to real-life situations, additional one-on-one contact with lecturers and small-group work. Class sizes will be small and timetabled to ensure that appropriate social distancing can be maintained.
Based on the current government regulations in force we are planning to start off with 20 to 30% of normal in classroom study contact hours. As the situation continues to ease we will adapt the amount of in classroom study contact hours accordingly.
