The Hague University Research & Development

Information, Technology and Society

The research group in Information, Technology and Society aims to help build a more vibrant society by further researching, designing and developing the potential of ICT. Its focus is on care and government, and its activities are organised in the framework of the eSociety Instituut.

The application of information and communication technology (ICT) in public urban administration and the social domain is a relatively new development. The issue has surfaced on the political radar due to its direct link to political and administrative ambitions such as the promotion of social cohesion, liveability, participation and interactivity. As the technological possibilities become greater, political ambitions and the will to invest increase. This results in an interesting dynamic, as the need for applicable knowledge and adequate methods and techniques grows exponentially. Both aspects are lacking in the relevant fields and existing knowledge organisations. The research group in Information, Technology and Society aims to cater to this need.

In broad lines, the knowledge network's work plan comprises the following activities:

  • Providing two elective modules on the knowledge area for students enrolled in all study programmes at The Hague University of Applied Sciences;
  • Preparing and executing (as of September 2003) two specially-themed units of study for (initial) study programmes participating in the knowledge network;
  • Preparing and executing a multi-year programme for research and advice on ICT and Public Administration (E-Democracy) and Information and Technology for the Care Sector (E-Care).
