Master in International Communication Management (MICM)

Our students

The MICM attracts students from across the globe who possess a broad spectrum of professional interests and experience. In 2015 – 2016, students from 21 countries, on four continents, have come to study in the MICM program. Many of our students already work in areas such as corporate communication and public relations, while others come to us from related fields such as marketing, brand management, journalism, television, radio, and social media. At the same time we also welcome professionals from diverse areas who seek a career change.

We seek professional men and women who we believe have what it takes to successfully complete the MICM and who will contribute to the richness of the classroom experience.  A minimum of 2 years of work experience is required.

Unique international perspective

The Master in International Communication Management is one of the few programs anywhere in Europe to provide such a strong focus on managing international communication.  In fact, we believe the program to have one of the strongest international focuses of any comparable program, found anywhere across the globe.  Along with students from around the world, our eight core faculty come to us from six countries, including Belgium, China, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, The United States, and Zimbabwe.  This means that students are immersed in international content from the moment they step into the classroom, and that every discussion brings together cultural and professional perspectives from around the world.

The special “MICM classroom experience”

Our educational philosophy is built around the notion that every time students convene in a classroom, they build the classroom experience.  That is, each student brings something unique to the classroom and educational experience of his peers, and is responsible for sharing it with them.  Our classrooms differentiate from others you may find elsewhere, in three salient ways:

  • The value we place on creating a collaborative classroom experience, each time and every time
  • The internationalism of students, teaching staff, and course content
  • The blending of part-time students, who are working professionals, and full-time students, in the same classroom.  This assures that each discussion has relevant and fresh input from the professional field.

The MICM curriculum

The MICM curriculum is revised every year so that courses reflect trends in the marketplace in which our students and graduates will work. Courses are offered in diverse areas such as Corporate Reputation, Managing Cross-Cultural Communication, Media Relations, Social Media, Internal Communications, Brand Management, and Communication Research.  At the end of the program, each student acts as a consultant to a client organization by completing a thesis that presents a solution to a real-world problem.

Along with eight core courses, and the thesis project, students complete five Professional Skills seminars.  The seminars are renewed and revised each year, so that the classroom experience may remain cutting-edge and relevant to changes in the professional practice.
